Sunsets on the Gulf

Pinellas County sits on a 280-square-mile peninsula along Florida's Gulf Coast, bordered by the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay.

Stretching 38 miles from tip to tip, it offers some of the most beautiful scenery and consistently perfect weather in the country.

Warm Gulf breezes cool things down in summer, and mild winters make it a year-round destination.

The name Pinellas comes from the Spanish "Punta Pinal," meaning "point of pines," a fitting description when Spanish explorer Panfilo de Narvaez arrived in 1528.

Long before that, the area was home to Native Americans, whose shell mounds can still be found throughout the county, including at Philippe Park in Safety Harbor.

Today, Pinellas County is one of Florida's most vibrant communities, with a year-round population of more than 900,000 and no shortage of things to see, do, and explore.
